Frequently asked questions about day sailing courses
Is it necessary that I have previous experience in sailing in order to participate in the courses?
No previous experience is needed in order to take part in the beginners day sailing courses. The only thing you have to do is to give time after your diploma in order to gain experience.
Is the diploma I take recognized?
Yes, the diploma you will receive after you complete successfully the theoretical and practical exams is recognized by the Greek Port authorities and most charter companies.
Is there an age limit?
If you are 18 and older, there is no age limit as far as you can be fit enough to move on the boat.
How many participants are on every boat?
There are about 6-8 participants depending on the size of each yacht.
I want to participate but I am single, can I come?
Of course! Most of the participants come alone and make new friends during the lessons.
I am worried that I might get nauseous what can I do?
Before taking off from the marina, you can take a pill that will prevent you from getting nauseous and during the sail, you can avoid going down stairs in the yacht. Although, you will be very occupied during the practical lessons so it is not that easy to feel nauseous.
Are we safe?
Yes we are very safe. All yachts are equipped with life jackets and life rafts according to law. There are also many safety gear electronics on board. Sailing yachts are the safest boats comparing to motor yachts, because they are build to last in difficult weather.
What clothes shall I bring with me?
The things you need are: bathing suite, beach towel, sunscreen, hat, sun glasses and sneakers (not with black soles if possible cause they leave marks on the boat). Other than those you can bring whatever you like and do not forget the lessons are daily and during summer time.
How can I keep on sailing after I get my first diploma?
Since you successfully complete your first sailing diploma, you can either continue lessons for the next level, or charter a sailing yacht to start getting more experienced. Sailing can be done in all weather conditions through out the year and you can charter yacht almost everywhere.
Are the exams difficult?
No they aren't as long as you have obtained all both theoretical and practical lessons. In case you are having any kind of problem during the lessons, do not hesitate to talk to your trainer about it. It is very important that you have completely understood everything you learned so you will not have any issues during the exams.
Can we cook on board?
Yes we can. All yachts have kitchens fully equipped, and we can go shopping for beverages and snacks to eat and drink during our sailing lessons.
